Rape Crisis Center Founder Nora Hochman will join STESA’s (Standing Together To End Sexual Assault) 50th anniversary celebration.
One of the initial founders of Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center will make the trip to Santa Barbara to speak with the local community.

One of the founders of the Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center (SBRCC), Nora Hochman will join STESA (Standing Together To End Sexual Assault) and its supporters at the Chocolate De Vine event this Saturday. Nora first moved to Isla Vista at age 17 and attended Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) once she turned 18 years old. At SBCC, she took a class on Women and Society taught by Dr. Barbara Lindemann, where she met Muff Biswell. Nora and Muff were passionate about the class and for their “term paper,” they decided to organize a rape crisis center, a resource of dire need in the community at the time. Together, with the support of their professor, Dr. Barbara Lindeman, Muff and Nora began SBRCC operations from Muff’s garage in 1974.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today shared its intention to bring service to Santa Barbara Airport and Fresno Yosemite International Airport in the second quarter of 2021.
"Our arrival in the Heart of California, both on the Central Coast and in the Central Valley, will round out nearly four decades of investment in our California Customers and communities," Southwest Airlines Chief Commercial Officer & Executive Vice President Andrew Watterson said. "While other airlines seem to fall in and out of love with the state, we're focused on increasing the reach of our low fares and flexible policies in places where we expect them to make a difference."
"For years residents and businesses throughout Central California have expressed a desire for Southwest service and connectivity to their vast network of destinations and renowned customer service," said Kevin Meikle, Director of Aviation for Fresno Yosemite International Airport. "Southwest will expand the Central Valley's air transportation gateway to Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and we look forward to our new partnership with Southwest and their arrival in the spring."
"We salute Southwest's bold decision to enter one of the most vibrant and beautiful regions in California, bringing visitors to our sweeping coastline to experience our mild Mediterranean climate and distinctive Spanish-influenced architecture," said Mayor Cathy Murillo of Santa Barbara. "For our residents, our partnership with Southwest will energize the economic rebound to come in 2021."
Along with Palm Springs, which received its first Southwest flight on Nov. 19, 2020, the addition of Fresno and Santa Barbara will position Southwest Airlines as an option in 13 California airports before summer 2021, further deepening the carrier's commitment to the Golden State. Southwest long has carried more air travelers to, from, and within California than any other carrier, a legacy sustained in the most recent reporting of U.S. Department of Transportation data on airline passengers traveling nonstop.
Simi Valley, Calif. (November 24, 2020)—With Ventura County shifting back into the purple tier, which prohibits gyms from operating indoors, the Simi Valley Family YMCA is opening a new outdoor fitness center in the parking lot behind the facilities.
The approximately 3,000 square foot outdoor center is partially covered to protect from the elements and contains cardio and strength training equipment.
It was only last month that the Y's indoor fitness center reopened after being closed since March. "We realized that we needed to be flexible so we could continue to offer workout opportunities to our members and the community regardless of the tier level," says Erin Wimmer, Director of Healthy Living at the Simi Valley YMCA. "Since we do not know when the county will go back to a less restrictive level, an outdoor facility is a must. We're fortunate that our location can accommodate the center without affecting parking."
Westlake Village, Calif.--The Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village has opened a nearly 9,000 square foot covered outdoor fitness facility in its back parking lot (31105 East Thousand Oaks Blvd.). The facility opened November 2.
The exercise area contains cardio equipment and weights to provide members an opportunity to workout in a COVID-compliant setting until Los Angeles County officially enters the red tier level and gyms can reopen indoors.
In August, the Yarrow YMCA began offering outdoor group exercise classes. "The classes were well received. We know that the community wants something more, particularly access to cardio and weight-lifting equipment," says Ronnie Stone, President/CEO of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA. "Since indoor workouts are still uncertain, we made the decision to move the equipment outdoors so we could comply with all health and safety guidelines."
To allow for cleaning and disinfecting, hours are 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 7:00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. Reservations are required. For more information or to a make reservation, call 818-707-9622.
The Simi Valley Family YMCA was cleared to open its indoor fitness center in early October. The pool and locker rooms remain closed until Ventura County moves to the orange tier.
Investor’s Advantage Corporation Provides Free Financial Plans to Frontline Workers During COVID-19
Minority-owned investment firm offers personalized, 90-minute consultations to protect essential workers’ financial future
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (October 26, 2020) — Investor’s Advantage Corporation, an independent investment firm with more than 40 years’ experience helping families achieve financial security, is offering free financial plans to first responders and other frontline workers who are playing an invaluable role keeping communities safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These free plans, developed after a 90-minute in-person or Zoom consultation with the Investor’s Advantage management team, will help frontline workers plan their path toward financial success and stability. Far too many of these workers are underpaid despite the critical nature of these jobs. But with a proper financial plan, workers can get more out of what they are earning now—and set themselves up for a financial future that is significantly less stressful than their jobs. The average cost of putting together a financial plan is about $2,000, according to Securities America Inc.
Investor’s Advantage’s team will help build an investment strategy that aligns with each worker’s individual risk profile, determined through a data-based assessment. In addition, given the nature of many of these workers’ careers, the financial plan will also include determining the appropriate level of life insurance to ensure surviving family members maintain a certain quality of life in the event of premature death, and college education planning so that no one in the family is forced to assume undue debt. It is a comprehensive approach that focuses on creating and maintaining wealth.
